The Archer Brothers Series / Book 3

Today we are reviewing the last book in the Archer Brothers Series. The next series is called the Hearts of Faith Series by Jody Hedlund (one of my new favorite authors).

On a side note, I've decided to add something new to my blog called "Time in the Limelight". (I've heard it called "character spotlight" but I wanted to make my own name.) Basically, "Time in the Limelight" is going to be a page dedicated to a certain character in a book. So if the book were Waterfall, by Lisa T. Bergren, the page might be on Gabriella Betarrini. From the page you'll learn about Gabi's character traits, skills, etc.,. Possibly, even a photo of a person who matches the description of Gabi. (That one might be a little tough. It's hard to find a likeness and everyone's image of what a character in a book looks like is different.) I hope to have the first "Time in the Limelight" posted next week.

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer weather; I know I am. :)

Book Title: A Cowboy Unmatched
Series: The Archer Brothers (Book #3)
Author: Karen Witemeyer

Description: Neill isn't sure who hired him to repair Clara's roof--he only knows Clara desperately needs his help. Can he convince this stubborn widow to let down her guard and take another chance on love?

My Review: A Cowboy Unmatched was a nice book but because it is an 'eBook short' it lacked some of the quality that a full length book has. I still enjoyed the story but I can't say it was my favorite in the Archer Brothers series.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Would I recommend this book? Yes. Although it was short, the book was still interesting and had some scenes of adventure and excitement.

The Archer Brothers Series / Book 2

Good afternoon everyone. Two days till Summer officially begins; although it seems like Summer started weeks ago. Before the 21st I hope to have completed my list of Summer goals. Maybe someone more organized is already done but I'm kind of a procrastinator. I'm not even sure why I make a list of goals because I hardly ever accomplish half of them. :) Definitely something I need to work on.

Wishing you a wonderful day!
Book Title: Stealing the Preacher
Series: The Archer Brothers
(Book #2)
Author: Karen Witemeyer

Description: On his way to interview for a position at a church in the Piney Woods of Texas, Crockett Archer can scarcely believe it when he's forced off the train by a retired outlaw and presented to the man's daughter as the minister she requested for her birthday. Worried this unfortunate detour will ruin his chances of finally serving a congregation of his own, Crockett is determined to escape. But when he finally gets away, he's haunted by the memory of the young woman he left behind--a woman whose dreams now hinge on him.

For months, Joanna Robbins prayed for a preacher. A man to breathe life back into the abandoned church at the heart of her community. A man to assist her in fulfilling a promise to her dying mother. A man to help her discover answers to the questions that have been on her heart for so long. But just when it seems God has answered her prayers, it turns out the parson is there against his will and has dreams of his own calling him elsewhere. Is there any way she can convince Crockett to stay in her little backwoods community? And does the attraction between them have any chance of blossoming when Joanna's outlaw father is dead set against his daughter courting a preacher?

My Review: Stealing the Preacher was a great book. I thought the beginning was pretty funny when Joanna's reformed-outlaw father kidnaps Crockett for his daughter's birthday present. Karen Witemeyer has the talent of drawing her reader into the story and this book was no exception.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

New Releases: Captured By Love

Book Title: Captured By Love
Publishing Date: July 1, 2014

A little bit about the book:
-Michigan Territory, 1814-
A voyageur and a young woman swept up in a time of upheaval and danger discover firsthand the high price of freedom.

The British Army has taken control of Michilimackinac Island and its fort, forcing the Americans to swear an oath of loyalty to the crown in order to retain their land. Pierre Durant is a fur trader who returns after being away from the island for years, only to find the family farm in shambles and those he cares about starving and at the mercy of British invaders.

Torn between the adventurous life of fur trading and guilt over neglecting his defenseless mother, Pierre is drawn deeper into the fight against the British--and into a relationship with Angelique MacKenzie, a childhood friend who's grown into a beautiful woman. She now finds herself trapped by the circumstances of war and poverty, and the cruelty of her guardian, Ebenezer Whiley.

As tensions mount and the violence rages on, Pierre and Angelique must decide where their loyalties rest and how much they'll risk for love.

My thoughts on this book: This book was so good I went through and read it twice in the same week! I have a weakness for books with French characters. Also Pierre is one of my favorite French names for guys. So you can imagine part of why I liked this book so much. :) Another reason why this book is one of my favorites is because Pierre fell in love with Angelique not because of her beauty but her character. He loved her because of her sweet and caring spirit. She was genuine and that's what made her beautiful. Not only was this book exciting, because of the interaction between the Americans and British, but it was also inspirational.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Note: I received this book on NetGalley. I recommend to check this website out. I can't imagine what I did before I came across this website!

The Archer Brothers Series / Book 1

Hello everyone! I apologize for not posting in the last few weeks. The days have been passing by in a blur and I couldn't find any extra time. My sisters and I just got back from the Set-Apart Girl Conference at Ellerslie in Windsor, Colorado. Such a life changing experience. Definitely something I would recommend for you to look into.

We're starting a new series this week, The Archer Brothers by Karen Witemeyer. I'm really enjoying reading the books she's written. I've read every single one of hers except Head in the Clouds which I have on my desk right now. I've also come across a new author, Mary Connealy, whose books I totally love. I'm sure we'll be reviewing some of her series in the near future.

As you may have noticed I've decided to take "my favorite book" off the sidebar. It's too hard to choose and to be honest I don't really know. I seem to have a new favorite book every week and sometimes twice a week. (It depends on how many books I read. I average about four to five a week :) The quote "I could no sooner choose a favorite star in the heavens" is one to which I can totally relate. (By the way it's from the movie Ever After: A Cinderella Story when the girl is asked to choose a book from a library) Maybe I'll make a spot on the sidebar for my current favorite book.

I hope everyone has a week full of blessings.

Book Title: Short-Straw Bride
Series: The Archer Brothers
Author: Karen Witemeyer

Description: No one steps on Archer land. Not if they value their life. But when Meredith Hayes overhears a lethal plot to burn the Archer brothers off their ranch, a twelve-year-old debt compels her to take the risk.

Fourteen years of constant vigilance hardens a man. Yet when Travis Archer confronts a female trespasser with the same vivid blue eyes as the courageous young girl he once aided, he can't bring himself to send her away. And when an act of sacrifice leaves her injured and her reputation in shreds, gratitude and guilt send him riding to her rescue once again.

Four brothers. Four straws. One bride. Despite the fact that Travis is no longer the gallant youth Meredith once dreamed about, she determines to stand by his side against the enemy that threatens them both. But will love ever be hers? Or will Travis always see her merely as a short-straw bride?

My Review: Short-Straw Bride is a exciting, adventurous, and fun book. After reading a glimpse into the book on Amazon I could hardly wait to read the whole thing! The characters seemed so real and I couldn't help but feel drawn to this storyline. Meredith, the main person, was sweet and spunky! Two character traits I especially like in stories.
